Additional The Seeker's Guide (previously published as The New American Spirituality) Information

Formerly published as "The New American Spirituality : A Seeker's Guide".

In 1977, Elizabeth Lesser cofounded the Omega Institute, now America's largest adult-education center focusing on wellness and spirituality. Working with many of the eminent thinkers of our times, including Zen masters, rabbis, Christian monks, psychologists, scientists, and an array of noted American figures--from L.A. Lakers coach Phil Jackson to author Maya Angelou--Lesser found that by combining a variety of religious, psychological, and healing traditions, each of us has the unique ability to satisfy our spiritual hunger.

In The Seeker's Guide, she synthesizes the lessons learned from an immersion into the world's wisdom traditions and intertwines them with illuminating stories from her daily life. Recounting her own trials and errors and offering meditative exercises, she shows the reader how to create a personal practice, gauge one's progress, and choose effective spiritual teachers and habits. Warm, accessible, and wise, this book provides directions through the four landscapes of the spiritual journey:

THE MIND: learning meditation to ease stress and anxiety
THE HEART: dealing with grief, loss, and pain; opening the heart and becoming fully alive
THE BODY: returning the body to the spiritual fold to heal and overcome the fear of aging and death
THE SOUL: experiencing daily life as an adventure of meaning and mystery

What Customers Say About The Seeker's Guide (previously published as The New American Spirituality):

I know Elizabeth Lesser; not well, but well enough to know that this is not a person I would ever consider following in any sense of the word. This woman sets traps to kill ground hogs living on her property, which happens to be adjacent to a New York State nature preserve, because they interfere with her garden. Now, this is my opinion, but being a human fully involved with all sorts of consciousness in this world, I consider such behavior unconscionable and not the conduct one expects from anyone who purports to be a spiritual adviser.

The Seekers' Guide is a "how to" book on meditation that is honestly written and easy to understand. I wish I could get this kind of guidance in a church somewhere, but I don't think that is possible, at least not where I live. I am so hungry for such spirituality, but seem to find it only in books by Eckart Tolle, Thich Nhat Hanh, Ram Dass, Pema Chodron, and Elizabeth Lesser. Thank heaven for these writers.

The book came through with a flimsy paper wrap and was damaged during delivery. Otherwise OK.

I adore the book. I heard the author speaking on Oprah and knew I would love what she had to say.and I do. There is much value in her words.

I have not read the book as of yet and I am actually giving all the reviews on here 5 stars because they are honest, they don't attack the author and I love the way each person wrote their review. Thank you, I truly have a desire to read this book now because of all the awesome reviews.
